A bump in the road.

Well, my running has had to be stalled, due to a bump in the road, or rather an injury. Before the race last Saturday I was dealing with some ankle pain. I bought some tape and just taped them both to be able to run the race. Well, the tape worked great for getting me through the race, but afterwards my ankle pain was much worse. I rested Sunday (as I do anyway) and again didn't run on Monday. Tuesday morning I got all ready, headed out the door and hit the trail. After about 5 steps, I had to stop running, the pain in my ankles (even though they were taped) was too much. I walked about a mile that morning and came home.

I scheduled an appointment that morning and decided I really needed to make sure I wasn't dealing with something major before I continued. The Dr was thorough, taking many x-rays. Luckily the X-rays came back clean, but due to the fact that the bone where I am experiencing most of my pain is a major load bearing bone, there is still the possibility that I am developing a stress fracture in that area. I cannot run on them until I have no pain while walking (which I still do, so no running yet). So my morning runs have had to be converted to morning bike rides until I can get back to running.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am! I felt so good having completed that race, and I was really hoping to continue. I am still hopeful that I will be able to run in the Alzheimer's run later this month, but my chances of bettering my time have gone down the tubes! Oh well, that's what I get waiting until I am overweight to start running again! More stress on those bones and joints!

I SO understand what you are going through with this. I know how frustrating it is to find something you love doing, only to have your body rebel against it. I know how it is to have an injury and be forced to quit for a season, and I know that biking is not the same as running. My advice...hang in there! This too shall pass. Your feet will heal and you will be able to run again soon. You're doing awesome and I love passing you in the mornings. You are looking so great and your dedication is paying off. I'm here if you ever need to vent. =)
